S2: Wednesday
Adam Sabolick
Painting
I am motivated by my desire to give the world something beautiful. Although beauty is certainly relative, I believe the spectacle of beauty in nature is a common shared experience, transcending boundaries or differences between us. By utilizing forms and colors found in nature, it is my intent to produce work which operates on a democratic level while allowing the viewer to engage in their own taste.
Alannah Rose
UI Design
I design smart, interactive interfaces to aid in recreating existing interfaces for a more pleasant user experience. I focus on UI design within the Entertainment Industry. One day I will create sci-fi based UI designs utilizing motion graphics for use in films. An example of this is the hologram-like interfaces often used in Marvel movies.
Alexa Ellis
Interior Design
My mom began her interior design business in our living room when I was very young. She taught me to have an open eye for art and design in every place I visit and everything I see. After a lifetime of training, I too have become an Interior Designer. Together, we create design plans and layouts for clients while designing furniture and art for various companies. My style integrates my many travel experiences with my love of history. I combine contemporary and classical themes with pops of color.
I love to bring architectural elements to the interior of a home. To add polished fixtures. To utilize light to enhance a space. To link ornate textures with a clean, modern aesthetic. To integrate all of this into one cohesive design is a fundamental aspect of how I work with a client.
Alicia Reyes
Illustration
When I create an illustration I work through multiple ideas to explore the meaning and emotion of the piece. I fuel my creativity with these elements to produce illustrations with impact. For example, if I make a monster, do I want the monster to be scary or silly? Big or small? What if I make it pink? How would that change the overall feeling and design of the character? Thoughts like these become an essential part of my creative process. I immerse myself in what it is I am trying to convey through my artwork and I try to find the best way to do it.
Anna Reilly
Art Education / Museum Education
Art is communication. Art is a visual vocabulary we use to explain ideas, experiences, and feelings. The “alphabet” of art is the mediums, surfaces, and marks we use to make work. As an art educator understanding the “alphabet” is fundamental to teaching visual culture.
My goal is to present art as an essential means of communication in everyday life. As a Museum Educator and Community Outreach Resource, I strive to help people become fluent in the language of art. To speak of, to hear, and to listen to what visual culture is telling us.
Carolina Rivas
Graphic Design, Illustration
In my Graphic Design & Illustration work I use themes of outer space and the deepest depths of the ocean. Through this sensibility, I strive to take the viewer to new, unexplored places. To unknown places. I work to open that space in the viewerβs mind that is sometimes abandoned: imagination.
Sometimes people believe that they’ve lost their sense of wonder and curiosity. That they’ve lost things associated with childhood. As we grow older we come to believe that we know. We know, so there is no need to explore. No use in wondering. No use for the imagination. Through my work, I offer an invitation to rediscover the joy of wondering. The joy of imagining. An invitation to join the innocence of childhood with the wisdom of adulthood.
Danica Durant
Textile Design
I am a textile designer who utilizes thousand-year-old fiber techniques to create pieces that have a contemporary design and function.
Textiles are deeply rooted in our relationship to the environment. Every culture has utilized some sort of fibrous material for decorative art or functional art: woven and beaded ceremonial garments, paper making, quiltmaking, furniture upholstery, 1960βs macrame, and more. As human beings, we have strong connections and memories with fiber.
My goal is to continue these traditions by creating functional pieces in a sustainable way. Pieces people can interact with and enjoy in a modern setting.
When I’m not planning out a new colorway or pattern series, you’ll probably find me backpacking in a national park. Or sailing. Or listening to Neil Young and Joni Mitchell on vinyl. Or cooking up something from a Moosewood Cookbook.
Jade Nguyen
Illustration
I was born in Vietnam and grew up in Orange County, California. Iβve always loved to draw since I was a little, and things have never changed since. I love doing illustration and my works are mostly focused on smaller details. I use different mediums for my works, be they traditional or digital. Designing characters and painting portraits are what I am most interested in.
Jeff Frame
Surfer, Marine, Businessman, Artist
I donβt believe that I can experience your art. And I donβt believe that you can experience my art. Why? Because you canβt trust me to not bullshit you. And I canβt trust you to not bullshit me.
Why does it matter? Because I want to see the real shit. The shit you saw in your head. Not some by-product of your thought that has been watered down with compromises and concessions to the limitations of whatever medium you are working in. Letβs do away with this βhappy accidentβ business too.
Someday technology will allow us to verify the accuracy of each otherβs art to our original thoughts. Some sort of projector that you plug your brain into. This is going to be dope. But itβs going to suck too because it will also be the day that art loses a lot of relevance. If this brain projector is βdigitalβ, then my goal is to explore the βanalogβ, striving to get as close to the βdigitalβ as possible.
I will pay for lunch if you can provide interesting conversation.
Jena Liebscher
Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Anthropolgie Girl, Plant Keeper, Earth Tone Enthusiast
I blend elements of calligraphy, illustration, branding, and typography to create unique and individualized pieces. My style is an elegant, contemporary fusion of traditional calligraphy and modern hand lettering.
My mom the gardener was the first influence on my illustration work. Mom’s botanical designs flowed into my illustration style. I love to draw custom bouquets, succulents and desert landscapes, and other natural elements.
For individual clients seeking custom branding and stationery suites, I integrate many design elements including calligraphy, illustration, and aspects of nature. I love creating connections with the people I design for. I want every design to reflect the heart and soul of its owner.
Jose Larios
Storyboard Art
Camera angles. Close-up shots. Dynamic action. These elements bring a scene to life. I use storyboards to convey emotion and movement.
My appreciation of cinematography and story-building stems from the films and sitcoms I grew up with. I started drawing at an early age when I watched animated superheroes like Spiderman, X-Men, and Japanese anime.
A fun exercise I enjoy is to create character designs based on people whose personality or style has made an impact on me.
Madison Olson
Metalsmithing
I create vessels and sculptures that reflect on my upbringing in a Pagan household. My mom reads tarot cards and does full moon rituals. Nature is a big part of being Pagan, I connect with earth and sky and I strive to infuse my metalworks with these sensibilities. I use forming techniques and different patinas to create a unique quality and aesthetic in my work.
I want people to sense the organic, grounded care I put into pieces. Functional pieces that they can also use every day. I strive to create work that is everlasting. Metalworks are works that will be around after we are gone. I want to be a part of that permanence.
Nicolette Cussins
Textile Design
I was born on the island of Kauai where I spent half my childhood before moving to California. I find organic forms found in nature to be aesthetically pleasing and I gain inspiration from these forms by traveling to uninhabited locations. I use multiple mediums to create texture and depth in my patterns. Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums because of the soft, transparent brush strokes.
Raquel “Rocky” Borja
Character & World Design
I create conceptual art, designs, and storyboards for animated characters and worlds. I hope to bring the joy I feel when watching animated movies and shows to others. This is a joy I discovered in childhood. I still discover this joy every time I create or experience animation.
Animation allowed me to travel. I loved shows that deeply developed their world and its myths. Animation inspired me to create my own stories and characters. Animation inspired me to be the best person I can be. Now I strive to do that for others.
Soohyun Cho
Graphic Design
I’ve wanted to become an artist ever since I was little. I was the student who was always good at drawings and won a lot of awards. By then, art was my life. I have enjoyed going back and forth into a world of imagination that not many people visit. I wanted to see how that imagination and complete unreality transform into a print. Based on my observation, photoshop and illustrator were the right media to express my imaginary world.
Yooujin Chae
Graphic Design, Branding, Typography, Package Design
I’ve been using Photoshop to edit and composite pictures since I was young. Today I work as a graphic designer. In graphic design everything is meaningful and everything communicates something. In my graphic design career I’ve learned a lot from working in groups, problem solving, and striving to help clients tell their story.
S1: Monday
Alex Wu
Painting, Commercial Art
My goal is to become a professional artist for my familyβs business (e-commerce). Most of the products shown on this website have been designed by me since 2011.
I enjoy competing in annual Triathlon events. I began in 2014 and my last competition was in 2017. I have improved my rank to 63/495.
Annmariz Buenconsejo
Illustration & Comic Book Art
I’m an Illustrator and Comic Book Artist based in Southern California. I created Peach Gorl zines, a yearly series of illustrated diary excerpts detailing my experiences with anxiety, love, and growth. Though my work is focused on capturing day-to-day events, I also focus on spreading body positivity and ensuring anything is possible through my pieces.
Anthony Max Valdez
Graphic Design, Photography, Business Marketing, Advertising
I am a highly motivated Entrepreneurial Artist, the work and skill I have developed throughout my college life has taught me that we need to invest the time into ourselves to become the people we are destined to become. I am on the road to becoming one of the most successful artists with a skill for communicating with the world through media, or out in the real world. My mindset will not only keep me driven to finding new people to create for, but creating a successful career for myself. Everyday comes a new opportunity to make it somewhere better in life, and I dedicate myself and push others around me to take the next step into a career, because I know thatβs what Iβm about to do. This is just the beginning.
Bishop Hardy
Art & Apparel
Iβm building my own business selling Art and apparel. It’s a unique direction to take and I’ve spent a lot of time creating a vision for it. My focus has been on illustration but I have an interest in showing my 3D work as well. I Also have some graphic design skills to help me with the apparel aspect. I plan to use all these skills to accomplish my goals.
Dallas Kirkwood
Graphic Design, Branding, Packaging
Hey everyone, my name is Dallas Kirkwood and I’m a Graphic Designer with a love for Branding and Package Design. Ever since that 1st design job on the high school yearbook, I’ve been in love with the creative process. I worked on Motiv8 at Nutrition Zone where I refined my practice of workflow, organization, and file handling.
Design provides an outlet for my creativity and brings me an overflowing amount of fulfillment in the process. Thereβs nothing better than delivering a finished project that the client absolutely loves, and seeing them light up when they see it. Thanks for stopping by; if you’re starting a business but donβt know what it should look like; contact me, I’d love to collaborate!
Daniela Ordaz
Graphic Design, Photography, Social Media Management
Hi my name is Daniela and I am a graphic designer, photographer and musician at my church. Everything I perceive and become inspired by kinesthetically I love to instill in my work. Iβm also passionate about helping small businesses grow and get the word out through social media and graphics so if you would like to collaborate feel free to contact me!
Darin Geesey
Graphic Design
Hello! My name is Darin Geesey and I am currently a CSULB student studying Graphic Design. I enjoy creating illustrations and learning more about programs in the creative cloud. My favorite program to use is adobe illustrator and I am always open to learning more about new creative programs.
Ev Voice
Illustration
Hello, iβm a senior at CSULB majoring in studio art with an interest in Illustration! My end goal is to be a free lance illustrator taking on commissions.
Jade Teran
Portrait Photography
My current work focuses on the rejection of traditional formality and form commonly displayed in portraiture. Every person’s body demonstrates a unique set of characteristics, and as an artist, I enjoy exploring the different contours and shapes to present something unfamiliar to the human eye.
While I do create traditional prints, my current collections also explore sculpture. The ability to bring a 2D work into a three-dimensional space enables me as an artist to engage with my work more while exploring physical layers and manipulations. The sculptural aspect of my work allows the viewer to have different perspectives while walking around the work and creates a more personal experience.
Jerry Frausto
Photography
As a studio major with an emphasis in photography, my main goal is to improve my technical skills in my profession. I work as an IT Professional for the CSU, but during this journey, I have learned the importance of developing new skills and networking with individuals to enhance my photography.
Jessica Edgar
Graphic Design
As a child, my favorite image was the smile on my dadβs face when I would gift him drawings of tiny heart-shaped people. Dad always asked me to make him more so he could hang them up at work. Through this, I discovered art as something that can make people happy. Which in turn made me happy.
I think that is also where I found my love for Graphic Design. Graphic Design combines my love for gifting art and my passion to create things with my hands. My love of Package Design comes from my appreciation for the tactility of art. I am interested in the dynamic quality that packaging entails. There is something about precisely cutting out each component of the packaging and seeing it fully constructed in your hands. I enjoy taking clients’ ideas and piecing them together into one cohesive work. Seeing a project through from start to finish, from the initial sketches to the final product, is a very exciting and satisfying thing.
Lisette Cuamani
Graphic Design, Painting
I love working with clients to help achieve their communication goals. Graphic Design, for me, is about building relationships. I feel a tremendous satisfaction when my work helps a client reach their goals. When clients return with new projects, I know we’ve developed a fruitful relationship.
Nick Senteno
Graphic Design & Advertising
I would like to pursue a career in film and advertising. Preferably working for a studio with a solid career based pathway.
Renato Bernal
Riana Portillo
Graphic Design
I am a creative individual with a shy personality and I use art to express everything. As an artist, I started off young and was inspired by Japanese Anime culture partially because I am half Japanese. I love to create art that expresses all my emotions but also my interests such as cats or anime. The color and themes all come from Japanese culture because I aspire to incorporate culture into my art.
Rileigh Tyrrell
Scenic Design
I first started creating art when I was very young and I focused primarily on drawing and acrylic painting. Over time my passion has remained with graphite drawing and acrylic painting. In pencil work, I like to focus on figure/life and capturing realistic details. With color, I like to dive into the abstract and play with how colors can interact or change the tone of a piece.
Sheila San Agustin
Graphic Design
Graphic Design brings forth a new challenge with each project. The process of being able to approach these challenges through the use of different mediums and perspectives is rewarding to me. This constantly evolving process includes research, exploration, and refinement. When creating work, I refer to these aspects to create designs that are not only visually pleasing but also empathetic to the clientβs needs. With these in mind, I see design as an intersection of creativity and communication.
Stephanie Eve Urness
Art & Fashion
I am a full-time artist and stylist. I like to pick up a variety of projects involving different mediums. I initially started working with fabrics but have expanded my practice into drawing, painting and sculpting metal. I am also working towards developing digital skills in order to enhance my traditional skill set. If there is a creative challenge, I will take it on.
I personally enjoy reading, writing, biking, and yoga.

Sharing our Stories
My favorite part of the LBSU School of Art (SOA) is visiting the SOA Art Gallery Courtyard each week. Every week 5 more student artists share their unique lives, experiences, and aesthetics with the campus community.
My one disappointment is that so many of these engaging artists don’t have websites. I’m fortunate this semester to be teaching Art 490, Artists’ Websites. If the students have learned half as much as I have this semester, then they have learned a lot.
A portfolio is a never-ending part of an artist’s life journey. I feel privileged to have helped these students launch web portfolios. I am excited to see where the sinuous paths of their careers take them in the years and decades to come.

I linked my word press since it was an option (maybe I can revive it) and my name is not attached to the medium link. This is Steph U, Monday class.
I love your WordPress, Stephanie. Great work. Do More!!
I’m mixed on the title Style Shopper Anonymous. It is a very cool title and could be a nice identity if it had a big enough push behind it.
But in the context of Art 490, I’m really encouraging people to choose Site Titles & Web URL’s like “GlennZucman.com”. I think for most of us this is the most direct, most clear, and compelling way to present our work and establish the career connections we’re seeking. I think for most people, having your real name right up front, and with a photo, is sort of like a nice, firm handshake at an interview, it’s just the best way to get started.
There are no mandatory choices in Art 490, everything is whatever you choose to best meet your needs. But I do suggest extreme caution in not working with your own name. And yes, I do realize your WordPress is a previous project, but I still need to mention naming.
In my own case, I’ve had all kinds of “clever” websites. OK, actually mostly “lame” websites. None of them as cool as “Style Shopper Anonymous”. Anyway, when you would Google my name, the #1 result has always been Rate My Professors.com. #2 was a Blogger website I used for 5 minutes 10 years ago. And then a scattering of Facebook, etc.
When I finally moved my content from various clever names to glenn.zucman.com, well, the #1 result is still RMP, but my actual website is now #2.
Anyway, just some things to think about, Steph. But the most important thing is… post as much as you possible can! Post often!!! It can be short, but keep at it! And always include a photo! π
Thanks for this input, this originally started out as a way of venting about retail/ customers and the joys of shopping without putting anyone specific person off, just blowing steam, ha! Yes, I agree on maybe creating a different blog or updating the name on here….
Thanks, Stephanie!

Hey Jerry! I really like how clean and direct the experience is when going onto your website. I would just make sure you update the paragraph in “About”. Hey Jessica! I think your website is coming along but can use some slight adjustments. All the wording you use to describe each image should be without any associations to academics. Basically, replace words that would hint towards higher education, such as “assignment” or “class” with simply “project”. I would also get rid of your Bio page – the information there can be included in either your About Me or home page.

The link doesn’t seem to work… can you check it?

Hey Jefferson! I think the website is cool and playful. I really dig the title too! I would maybe get rid of the quotation marks after you use them the first time, unless your intentionally using them for comedic purposes. If you were to get rid of them, I think there might be more command in the way your utilizing the nickname. The blog layout is great and will enable a lot of flexibility, making for a diverse reading and viewing experience.
Here is the skeleton to my website:

Hey Lisette! I dig how powerful your website looks with all the colorful imagery. If I were to make one suggestion, it would be to focus your energy. I think its fine to be a jack of all trades (oil painter, graphic designer…), but how you present that information might look better if you just summarize yourself as an artist. I also thing the pictures in your “in process” page are cool, but I would like to know what they are. Are they paintings? Details of paintings? Digital designs? If you clarify what we are looking at, it might speak towards your skill level in that medium. Good work!
