I teach Art at Long Beach State University. I have a tiny, boring office in a half-century-old faculty office bungalow. I used to hold office hours there. A while back it occurred to me that the students and I would both be better off if my office hours were someplace more open and light than my dingy office closet. So I moved my OH to the tables outside the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at the University Student Union at the center of campus.
Close to Coffee Bean are the main floor USU restrooms. Above the urinals in the men’s room are 2 chalkboards that usually feature some spontaneous opinion, vernacular expression, or drawing. This semester (Fall 2017) I thought I would photograph these chalkboards after my Monday & Wednesday office hours.
