Hi, everyone!
Welcome
It was nice meeting you all yesterday!
In the “B” part of the class, we’ll be spending time at the SOA Art Galleries, and we can have some more in-depth conversations about your interests & goals, but yesterday was at least a nice start.
BeachBoard
We won’t be using BeachBoard for any content this semester. There won’t be materials from me on BB and you won’t upload anything to the BB Dropbox or take any quizzes there.
We will use BB for your weekly points updates once we get into the “B” section of the class.
Website
I’ve updated the course website and the links to everything you want to know are here:
- Course Website
- Syllabus
- Materials List
- Artist Conversation Template
- Roster
- Schedule
- Art 110 Hall of Fame – Who will finish #1 this semester?… it could be y-o-u!
- Art 110 Alumni Group @FB – Nice place to hear, or post, the occasional update
- My Instagram – note that my IG won’t actually help you with the class, but you might find it amusing
Office Hours
My OH are Mon & Wed 1:30 – 2:30 at the USU umbrella tables outside Robeks / Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.
Drop by anytime to say “Hi!” or with any questions about art, the class, or life itself. I can’t guarantee I’ll have the answers to all your life questions, but I’m willing to listen! 😛
And, seriously, if you do need help with anything inside or outside of Art 110, hopefully, I can at least point you to the campus resources that can help. It’s a big campus and it can seem impersonal, but there are so many resources here! And so many people who care here! You are not alone! But… you do have to talk to someone… you can’t wait for someone to notice that you need help… Be sure to reach out for any kind of help you might need.
We are a very diverse class with all kinds of backgrounds. But I do know that at least some of you will be the 1st person in your family ever to go to college. That’s awesome! But it also means that unlike the peeps at Stanford or Harvard, you have not been told every single day of your life that you can innovate, that you can disrupt the way thing are, that you can change the world. Probably most of you have never been told that. Even though it’s true. As the 1st person in your family to go to college, you are amazing! But, it also means that you can’t possibly know how everything works or what your options are. Again, reach out, there are so many people here who can help if you ask them!

See you tomorrow for the boring syllabus! Oh, joy! 😀

PS: here’s a nice video from Photographer-Philosopher and former preacher Sean Tucker
Wow, just saw this amazing tweet/video from Congressional Candidate Katie Hill. Whether you’re for her, or against her, it’s a pretty compelling use of media:
I’m running for Congress because sometimes doing what’s right means doing what’s hard. My family, friends, and neighbors from #CA25 know exactly what hard work is — And you can bet we’re ready to show Congress. pic.twitter.com/QMD8uQ0tZ5
