Metro Regional Connector, Pitch #12

One major way for students to arrive at SMC is the Metro Expo Line. The 3 westernmost stops on the Expo Line are the Santa Monica Pier, 17th Street – SMC Main Campus, and 26th Street / Bergamot Station – SMC CMD Campus. From there the Expo Line heads East towards its current end at the 7th Street Metro Center in DTLA.

Metro is currently constructing the "Regional Connector" in the Little Tokyo area of DTLA. When completed in 2021, the Regional Connector will split the Metro Gold Line in half and attach the southern part of the Gold Line to the end of the current Expo Line.

If a student wants to go from SMC to, for example, ELAC, today, they could take the Expo Line to the Red or Purple Line to the Gold Line and then arrive at ELAC. When the Regional Connector opens this will become a single line connecting SMC to ELAC and everything in between in a single line without transfers.

Currently, the Regional Connector in Little Tokyo is a massive underground construction site – think "The Genesis Cave" from "Star Trek: Wrath of Khan."

We could photograph the current construction site. The large caves, machinery, and workers in hard hats might provide some compelling images.
